When first becoming involved with llamas we asked ourselves, “miniature llama or standard llama, which way should we go?” We decided both were right for us. An adult standard llama can weigh upwards of 450 pounds and can walk up to you and look you in the eye. They are intelligent, big, imposing and the most gentle, loving animals we have ever known. We call our standard llamas “Gentle Giants” and could not imagine our life without them. If you intend to use your llamas for packing, pulling a cart or using as a guard llama, standard llamas are the best choice.
Llamas three years of age or older that measure no more than 38 inches at the withers can be registered as a miniature. A llama under 3 years of age may be registered only if its mother is a registered, mature, mini llama or the mother(Dam) is registered as foundation stock, the father (Sire) must be a registered mini llama. As of Spring 2010 there are less than 800 registered miniature llamas . All our minis are registered miniature llamas. Miniature llamas have the same temperament and individual personalities as standard llamas, loving, gentle and demanding of our affection only smaller. If you have minimal land or just like smaller animals then mini llamas have a lot to offer
